Conduct UX research
Many businesses are now conducting their own user experience research, so if you’re not doing this or planning to in the near future, you could get left behind. This can start with the question: how user-friendly is our website? It often helps to get an outside opinion, of somebody who is visiting your site for the first time and doesn’t already know about your company. This kind of research can bring new insights into layout and design, which can lead to improvement and a significant impact on engagement and conversions.
Make sure your Server is up to speed
Fact: According to Adobe, 39% of people will stop engaging with a website if images won’t load or take too long to load. To stop loading waiting times, you can do two things.
First of all, make the whole website design as simple as possible. Don’t overload pages with text, images and videos as users will get bored waiting for the site to be ready to navigate.
Secondly, check the tech side of your website to make sure there are no issues with loading or navigation.
Simple design
When it comes to web design, simplicity is your friend. While it can be tempting to use lots of colours and flashy graphics, remember that this is not the purpose of your website. Every design feature should have a function – if it doesn’t then ask what its purpose is. People visit your website to find out information, so help them find it as fast as possible and present it an attractive but simple way.
Easy navigation
You should make it as easy as possible for users to find the information they are looking for. This means navigating from page to page should be efficient and easy as can be. Keep the structure of your primary navigation simple and the same on each page. It’s good practice to have three levels deep or less of navigation – no more. If you have a lot of pages and can’t include them all in the primary navigation bar, why not insert a search box?
